Sega and Twentieth Century Fox today announced the existence of a third Aliens versus Predator game, currently in development by Rebellion. The developer released the first game in the franchise back in 1999 but this upcoming third installment won't arrive until 2010.

"The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us," says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi, "It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming's most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans."

In the same breath, Sega also noted that it has "strategically updated" the release of the other Aliens titles currently in development, alluding that Gearbox's eagerly awaiting Aliens: Colonial Marines will most likely get bumped back in terms of its current tentative release date of Q2 2009.
